Why pelvic floor training is so important for men

Most men do not know that they have a pelvic floor that can be trained specifically. Yet this muscle group is directly responsible for your potency, your bladder control and your sexual experience. Targeted training works like a natural remedy for potency, without medication, without side effects, and with an effect that lasts.

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that closes off the pelvis at the bottom. It connects the pubic bone, sitting bones and tailbone and has two openings in men: for the urethra and the rectum. These muscles hold the organs in position, stabilise the back and trunk and control bladder and bowel. Particularly relevant for male sexuality: the pelvic floor contains the musculus ischiocavernosus, the so-called potency muscle. It ensures that blood is held in the erectile tissue during an erection. The stronger and at the same time more flexible this muscle, the more stable, longer lasting and more conscious your erection. Ejaculation is also influenced by the interplay of the pelvic floor muscles and can be controlled better through targeted perception and regulation. If the pelvic floor gets out of balance through tension or weakness, this affects not only sexuality but the whole body. Typical signs are back pain, pain in the groin and tension in the pelvis and legs.

A trained pelvic floor improves blood circulation throughout the pelvic area and strengthens the muscles responsible for a stable erection and conscious ejaculation control. A distinction should be made here: a stable erection requires above all strength and holding capacity in the pelvic floor, while control over ejaculation additionally requires good perception and a targeted ability to relax. In concrete terms this means: firmer erections, more stamina, better control over ejaculation and more intense sensation. Pelvic floor training is considered an effective natural remedy for potency and is even recommended as the first therapeutic approach for moderate erectile problems. Unlike medication it works long term, sustainably and without risks. With regular training, first improvements often show after 4 to 6 weeks.

Yes. Targeted pelvic floor training is one of the most important building blocks in the treatment of urinary incontinence, especially after prostate surgery or radiotherapy. After such procedures the sphincter muscle is often weakened, which can lead to involuntary loss of urine. By training the pelvic floor muscles, bladder control can be regained step by step. The training can also have a preventive and supportive effect with age-related bladder weakness, stress incontinence or an enlarged prostate (BPH). My recommendation: ideally begin before a planned operation to sharpen your perception of the pelvic floor. This makes regeneration considerably easier.

My pelvic floor training in Zurich is not group training but individual 1:1 guidance. In the first session we learn together where your pelvic floor is, how you consciously tense and relax it, and which exercises are most effective for your personal goal. Depending on your individual pattern, whether rather too much tension or too little activity in the pelvic floor, the training is tailored specifically to it. I work with breathing techniques, targeted body perception, PC muscle training and energetic exercises that you can then continue independently at home. Each session lasts about 2 hours (75 minutes of training plus preliminary conversation). For lasting results I recommend the package of 6, tailored individually to your pace.

Yes. I also offer pelvic floor training as an online session by video call. I guide you through the exercises and correct your execution in real time. This is ideal if you do not live in Zurich, want to stay flexible in terms of time or prefer to do the exercises from home. You only need a quiet room, comfortable clothing and a stable internet connection. The online session lasts 75 minutes and costs CHF 90.

What pelvic floor training does for you as a man

The effect of targeted pelvic floor training goes far beyond bladder and erection. It changes how you feel your body, how you move and how you experience your sexuality. In my work I combine physiological training with conscious breathing and body perception, so that the change arrives not only in the muscle but in your whole life.

Stronger erection and more stamina: a trained pelvic floor improves blood circulation in the pelvic area and strengthens the potency muscles. You gain control over the ejaculation reflex and experience your sexuality more consciously, more intensely and with more confidence.

Back health and upright posture: your pelvic floor works in interplay with the abdominal, back and breathing muscles. A strong, flexible pelvic floor stabilises your whole trunk, relieves the lumbar spine and can bring noticeable relief with chronic back pain.

Bladder control and prostate health: whether as prevention, with existing bladder weakness or after prostate surgery: pelvic floor training strengthens the sphincter muscle and gives you back control. You gain security in everyday life, without medication and without restrictions.

New body awareness and sexual energy: through conscious breathing work and targeted perception exercises you learn to experience your pelvis as a centre of power. Many of my clients report more energy, presence and inner calm that changes their whole everyday life.

In principle every man benefits from pelvic floor training, regardless of age. Young men can strengthen their potency muscles preventively and develop better body awareness. From 40 the elasticity of the pelvic floor muscles naturally decreases, which is why targeted training becomes particularly worthwhile then. And if you are facing prostate surgery, I recommend starting the training beforehand to sharpen your perception of the pelvic floor. This makes regeneration after the procedure considerably easier.

You can often feel first improvements after 4 to 6 weeks of regular training. For clear and lasting results in potency, continence or ejaculation control it usually takes 2 to 3 months of consistent practice. The good news: the exercises are easy to integrate into everyday life. Just 5 to 10 minutes a day are enough if you master the technique correctly. That is exactly what professional guidance is for: so that you activate the right muscles from the start and lose no time with incorrect execution.

Yes, pelvic floor training is considered one of the most effective natural means of strengthening erectile capacity. The reason: the pelvic floor contains the potency muscles that ensure blood is held in the erectile tissue of the penis. Targeted training strengthens these muscles, improves blood circulation in the pelvic area and makes the ejaculation reflex easier to control. Compared with medication such as PDE-5 inhibitors, pelvic floor training works without side effects and in the long term. For moderate erectile problems it can be used as a first therapeutic attempt.

Yes. A trained pelvic floor gives you more control over the ejaculation reflex. Through targeted tensing and relaxing of the pelvic floor muscles you learn to perceive and steer the moment before climax more consciously. In my training I additionally work with breathing techniques that help you stay calm in moments of high arousal and distribute the energy in the body instead of releasing it abruptly. This takes practice, but many men report noticeably more stamina and control after a few weeks.

Yes. Your pelvic floor works in interplay with the abdominal, back and breathing muscles. If the pelvic floor is weak, this can lead to increased strain on the lumbar spine. Through targeted training you stabilise your whole trunk and improve your posture. Many men find that chronic back or neck pain eases when they train their pelvic floor regularly. So the training works not only on bladder and sexuality but on your whole body.

A physiotherapist works primarily with the pelvic floor as a medical rehabilitation instrument, above all after operations or with clinically proven complaints. My work goes one step further: I combine targeted muscle training with breathing work, body awareness and the energetic experience of the pelvis as a centre of power. This means: you learn not only to tense and relax the pelvic floor. You learn to understand and consciously use your pelvis as the source of your masculine vitality, potency and life energy. Where needed I recommend a complementary physiotherapeutic assessment. In consultation with your doctor my offer is also available as support with medical topics such as incontinence after prostate surgery.
